Backflow Prevention Test

The NFPA 25 standard mandates the maintenance of backflow prevention equipment in good working order along with inspection, testing and maintenance records. Inspections will be performed on an annual basis unless otherwise noted.

Here is a list of the tasks/checks performed during an inspection:
    • Visually inspect condition of backflow prevention device
    • Ensure that shut off valves are closed and not leaking
    • Operate control valves and lubricate stems if necessary
    • Complete pressure test by isolating the double check backflow preventer, and through the test ports provided
    • Test system to verify that backflow device is holding water pressure
    • Record relief valve pressure
    • Gauges will be inspected and calibrated every 5 years

Upon completion of the inspection and any necessary repairs, the appropriate inspection documents and deficiencies noted are left at the location and made available electronically. The water commission of local jurisdiction then receives a copy of the inspection summary and test results from the inspection team.
